Sad News

I was sad to find out on Monday that Dr. Lynn Montgomery passed away from a heart attack on Tuesday, Oct. 28. In 2006 Dr. Montgomery opened the doors of Missoula’s first Birth Center.

When I was deciding which OB/GYN to see when I got pregnant with Abbey someone recommended I see Dr. Montgomery. In the end I decided to see Jeanne Hebl, the nurse-midwife at his practice. But Dr. Montgomery performed my 20-week ultrasound and told Eric and me we were having a girl.

Then, after 18 hours of labor with two hours of unsuccessful pushing Dr. Montgomery was called to the hospital at 2am to deliver Abbey.

While I didn't see him regularly it's hard for me as a mom to separate the emotions of giving birth from the man that helped bring Abbey into the world safely. Looking back I realize Abbey was under serious distress and Dr. Montgomery used vacuum extraction to quickly delivery her(I remember there being at least 4 or 5 nurses in the room at the time but not really understanding at the time why there were so many people there). After giving birth to Abbey there were several seconds where it seemed like everyone in the room was holding their breaths. And then Dr. Montgomery gave me Abbey.

And I think that's why I'm a little sad at the news of his passing. He will forever be connected to one of the most significat events in my life.

That is sad he died, but happy he delievered Abbey. I didn't realize that you were in labor so long with Abbey and that she was vacuumed. I guess I should complain about the 1.5 painful hours of Trev's delivery.

Love you!

That is sad news. You never want to hear that someone you know has passed away. I didn't know either that you had a such a long labor with Abbey or that you needed a vacuum. It's a good thing Dr. Montgomery was there and knew what to do.
