Since my promotion in May I've been struggling to find a balance between work and life and I've been thinking a lot about the idea of 'having it all'. You know: a happy marriage, kid(s), work, pleasure, a clean house, time to myself, enough sleep and a church calling.
In my quest to find balance I came across an article on CNN.com that said "A third of U.S. employees are chronically overworked and about half have been overworked at some point in the past month, according to a study by the Families and Work Institute."
The article also included a quiz. Here are my results:
"You're wobbly, but almost balanced. Try some time management tips to create more quality time at home for you and your family and friends."
Not really something I didn't already know. To create more balance I've stopped bringing my laptop home from work and I've tried to workout before going to work to give me that 'me' time (Abbey's there so it really isn't 'me' time, but it's better then nothing.)
I'll be honest, I may be getting better, but I still think when you have a full time job and a child (or children) it's impossible to 'have it all'. In fact, I think even if you don't have a full-time job its impossible to 'have it all'. In the end something has to give. For me it's housework. In other words, I'm one of those moms that has dirty dishes in the sink. I do laundry once a week and mop my kitchen floor less then that. I let Abbey watch too much TV and neglect Eric. But I'm trying.
So, regardless of whether you work out of home or in the home, how do YOU find balance in your life?

If you ever figure it out let me know. I think that your book club is a good thing. At least that is something for yourself! As for the dishes and laundry. I am home full time (mostly) and I still have that problem. Go figure!
I don't balance everything. The only way I even stay close to on top of it is that Nate does a ton around here.
I smell a self-improvement book fortune to be made! We're all waiting, Sher.
I took the quiz and got the same score as you did so I guess neither of us can take tips from the other. D'oh.
I don't work and I still feel like my life is not balanced. I admire you for working, I know it's not easy. But you seems to be doing a great job balancing your life. Just look at how smart and cute Abbey is!
