For those of you that follow my blog you know that Abbey loves the The Waterford Early Reading Program™ DVDs, especially Rusty & Rosy™ Nursery Songs & Rhymes. In this DVD each letter of the alphabet has an animated nursery rhyme. Abbey has watched the DVD many times and now associates each letter to a different nursery song or rhyme.
In the past Abbey has always enjoyed having me sing these songs to her. She normally tells me the one word that represents the corresponding letter and I'll sing her that song. Recently she's begun to sing these songs on her own or with me so it wasn't a surprise when she requested I sing her the "Apple" song. But she did something new. The conversation went a little like this:
Abbey: "Mom sing 'Apple' song."
Me: "OK."
Abbey: "And Abbey sing 'Bluebird.'"
Me: [confused] "Um. OK."
I begin singing: "Way up high in the apple tree..."
[At the very same time] Abbey begins singing: "Bluebird, bluebird through my window..."
[Half way through the songs] Abbey stops and says: "Now Abbey sings 'Apple'."
Me: "What's Mom going to sing then?"
Abbey: "'Bluebird'."
Me: [amused] "Bluebird, bluebird through my window..."
Abbey: [happy and excited]: "Apple tree! Mmmm they were good!"
It's now that I realize, Abbey must have learned what a round is but doesn't understand that in a round the two people sing the same song! I'm laughing at Abbey's silliness when it continues:
Abbey: [after finishing 'Apple' and 'Bluebird'] "Mom sing 'Cake'"
Me: "What's Abbey going to sing?"
Abbey: "Diddle"
Me: [now laughing even harder, I realize we've moved to the next two nursery rhymes!] "Patty cake patty cake baker's man..."
Abbey: "Diddle! Diddle! Cat! Cow jump moon..."
After singing 'Cake' and 'Diddle' we switch. For the next five minutes or so we go on like this, with Abbey telling me which song I was going to sing and which song she was going to sing and the two of us singing different songs at the same time. I'll admit I thought it was very amusing! What a silly little girl Abbey is!

How cute! Abbey is a very bright kid. I wish I could hear her sing.
